The troubleshooting Items below should take care of any problems that you may have running Profit Adventure Online:

01. "After I log in it doesn't take me to Profit Adventure, but right to a the "thank you for choosing Profit Adventure" screen. Using firewalls that block popup ads will cause this problem--especially Norton Internet Security which has some very obtrusive code in it. Simply disable "Ad Blocking" and your problem should be solved. However, if you're using Norton Internet Security, turning off "Ad Blocking" or even uninstalling the program can still leave traces of the program that will cause this--this is a Norton Internet Security Issue. There is a workaround though: make sure all Internet Explorer windodws are closed, turn off "Ad Blocking", open Internet Explorer and delete "temporaty internet files" ("tools", "internet options", "delete files"), then shut down your computer--leaving "Ad Blocking" turned off. Restart your computer, and you will be fine as long as you keep Ad Blocking off.

02. "Won't install Flash or Shockwave players properly, or makes me install them over and over." If running Windows 2000 or XP (NT), you must have administrator priveledges to install the Flash and Shockwave players successfully. Either get help from the person who has administrative priveldges on your machine or get them to make you an adminstrator. Non administrators can't install programs in general--not just Shockwave or Flash. Once you have adminstrative permission, simply running Profit Dimensions will prompt you to install both players.

03. "Numbers and images on the screen are fuzzy and hard to read." Your screen resolution MUST be set to 1024x768. Almost all video games do this automatically, but because you're running Profit Dimensions from the Internet/Intranet most computers' antivirus software keeps us from running scripts to do this--and rightfully so. To set your screen resolution "right click" on your desktop, click "propterties", then click the "settings" tab, then then move the "screen resolution" slider to "1024x768" and click "OK".

04. "Not sure if I have the latest version of Flash or Shockwave players and are they working?" Check to see that you have the latest versions of Flash and Shockwave and that they are working here: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/

05. "Does my company's Intranet allow me to completely download Flash and Shockwave?" If on a company Intranet, check with your IT Help Desk to see that the network will allow you to install the Flash and Shockwave players from the Macromedia site.

06. If your problem wasn't solved above, you have a corrupt Flash or Shockwave player, a version of Internet Explorer that's too old and incompatible, or possibly both these scenarios. Performing the instructions below is sure to solve all your problems, assuming that all the above items didn't solve it already. This step will only work if items 1 and 4 check out okay. If they don't, you won't have success doing this:

An earlier version of Shockwave Player is pre-installed with Internet Explorer. Sometimes, damage to the Shockwave Player that's already installed can prevent your upgrading to the latest Shockwave Player. You can resolve almost all difficulties encountered with the Macromedia Shockwave and Flash Players by taking the following steps:

A. Make sure you have Internet Explorer Version 6. You can check for later versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer on the Microsoft Website:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/

If there is a more recent version, download its installer to your desktop. Don't run this installer yet.

B. Uninstall Shockwave Player. You can download a Shockwave Player uninstaller for Windows and Mac OS:
Shockwave Player uninstaller (Windows)
Shockwave Player uninstaller (Mac OS)

Save the uninstaller to your desktop, then quit/exit any applications you have open. Launch the uninstaller from your desktop and follow the instructions in the dialog boxes which appear.

C. Uninstall Flash Player. To uninstall Flash Player, you must delete the Flash Player plug-in or ActiveX control. The path to the Flash Player depends on the operating system your computer uses:

Windows XP
Delete the swflash.ocx file in the Macromed directory:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Windows 95/98
Delete the swflash.ocx file in the Macromed directory:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Macromed\flash\

Windows NT:
Delete the swflash.ocx file in the Macromed directory:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\

Netscape for Windows:
Delete the NPSWF32.dll file in the Netscape plugins directory:
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\Plugins

Mac OS
Delete the Shockwave Flash NP-PPC file in the plug-ins folder of your Internet browser.

D. Restart your computer.

E. If you downloaded the installer for a more recent version of Internet Explorer, launch that installer now. Follow the instructions the installer gives.

F. Finally, reinstall the Shockwave and Flash Players here:
http://www.shockwave.com/download/

Note: If when attempting to download the Shockwave and Flash Players, no dialog boxes appear, you may be experiencing an issue with Microsoft's Install On Demand feature. If at any time in the past you had indicated that you did not wish to install the Macromedia Web Players, Install On Demand will prevent their subsequent installation. You can undo this setting with the executables below:
For Shockwave Player
For Flash Player
